Description
I did this car the same way as before. did totally my own concept car except for the twin turbo chargers in the back, I did rip that from a Jaguar C-X75 thought they were cool. Have to imagine they are electric motors though because this is an electric car, so no exhaust pipes. The shapes on the body were mostly all found forms in reflections when I was rotating the TS body around in Keyshot. The back end was created from the reflection of a forest scene, and the front grill opening was a reflection of a recycling bin. The shapes of the two back windows, the line on the side of the car, the headlights, and the emblem were all based on shapes that reflected off the surface of the TS body. I took screen snapshots and used them to trace the sketches, projected the sketch onto the TS body, then projected those curves from the body back onto another sketch that is perpendicular to the car axis. Used that sketch to make the lights, and openings. I need a background image plane that doesn't move when I rotate the model space, so I can line up the model with the image. The license and other terms for contributing and using assets in the Autodesk Gallery are found in theAutodesk Terms of Use.

Thanks Nathan, I think the update is great, still some issues but this update solved some major stalling problems for me. The renderer, even though limited, is very handy, It's a great tool for viewing and evaluating the surface of the T-Spline body. I wish I could edit the T-Spline while it's in render mode. That way you don't have to go back and forth between render and model mode checking and adjusting.
Hi Don - I hope the update has continued to work well for you. I thought I'd drop you a note that this is like the fifth time I've come back to check out your project, really impressed. The body-coloured wheels do a great job complimenting the styling.
After trying the update for ten seconds I was able to do what took me over an hour to do last night and that was to open the file and turn on an off some canvases and take screen snapshots. I'm so happy that hanging problem was fixed. That's fantastic, many thanks. Now I'm going to check out what's new.
Thanks Don, please send me any notes you have.
I like your idea of 3D printed car bodies. Sell a standard engine/chassis, then design your own body to go on top. Talk about personalized cars...
Thanks so much guys. I've added a few more screen shots of the model and TS car body. I would think that in the near future car bodies and wheels will be 3D printed using carbon fibre material. Cars then can be quite individual. The 3D parts then added to a standard chassis.
Colin, I'm excited to see the next release later tonight. The new renderer is a great addition, and the stability fixes on the Mac, I really can't wait to test that. I'll open this file with the new version and see if the hanging problem is resolved, that would make my day and save me some time in typing up the three pages of notes I made.
Wow, Fantastic. I love the lines and the details really bring it to life. Anytime you can make c-pillar / flying buttress work I'll probably like the result (and I do!). What is your production schedule? ;)
awesome design.
Beautiful work Don. Thanks for explaining your methodology. Can you share some screen shots of the model? I'm eager to have you try out the new rendering tools coming in the next release and get your feedback.
