Description

Ramshorn crane hook has become an essential component for unloading containers from ships and lifting heavy loads in high performance cranes in port operations and marine industry. Thus, the engineering design of the Ramshorn crane hook should be done in such a way that it can deliver the highest performance under all working conditions without any kind of failure. The structural strength and probability of failure usually depends on various structural factors such as material properties, design geometry, and the amount of overload. In this project, loading standard and material properties kept constant while few design features such as shackle hole (bottom), swivel joint (middle), and eye suspension (top) were added as well as cross-sectional shape is modified. The model of Ramshorn crane hook has been designed in Autodesk Fusion 360 and HSM simulations (part of the Autodesk Fusion 360 software) had used to construct the original Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) as well as the modified DFM and DFA.
