I was going to ask you to show your CAM passes, but after looking how it was machined, I realized that it would be extremely hard to do on 2.5 CNC machine. What you have out there is probably 6 digits priced machine. I got little jealous. Congrats on your equipment.

Peter. For these, I used a polishing wheel and aluminum compound. Nothing special. I am setting up a vibratory that uses curshed walnut shells. That works great for aluminum. Thanks!

Jon, Just a standard Kurt. The "Adv. Work holding" referred to the Center Punch being held up on one end by the 1/2-13 in the photo. ... not advanced. It's an old machinist trick for getting one side to clamp Flat, if the opposing side is not flat / parallel. The gauge in the photo is to a Vacuum fixture. Right now, I'm running everything with a Haas VF3 @ the day job. I hope to get a mill @ the house soon. Thanks for your comments!

Yes AlZnMgCu (7075) has a very good finish and does not stick in the router.
I saw the CAM simulation with a lot of 3d strategies and 8 hours for 3 is a really good time.

Thanks Peter! 7075 Alu. has an awesome finish. 6061 is easier to cut, but doesn't leave as good a finish. I didn't really keep track of the time because it wasn't a production run. I did keep track of how long programming and running 3 complete parts took because I was at work til midnight : ) Once it moves to production, custom tools and good fixtures will save tons of time. 8 hours for finishing 3 parts is pretty good considering all the 3D strategies I used. Couldn't have done it with another software.
