Description
Fixturing designed to make 4 parts of 2 different models in a 3 Axis Vertical Machine Center (Haas).
Model-1 with 2 phases and Model-2 with 5 phases.
Clamping with MiteeBite Pitbull, Uniforce and a few bolts.
In the previous way in which the pieces were machined, a total of 25 tool changes were needed to finish 4 pieces of each of the 2 different models. Thanks to this tooling we can finish the same number of pieces making only 12 tool changes.
If each tool change lasts 10 seconds, we can translate this improvement into the following numbers:
- Every 4 pieces we have saved 130 seconds.
- Every 100 pieces we will save 54.2 minutes.
- Every 1000 pieces we will save 9,02 hours.
In addition to the time that we manage to save in relation to the tool changes necessary for machining the parts, we will also indirectly obtain time savings in the times that the operator has to open and close the machine or clean the work surface every time the program ends.
Furthermore, by carrying out all the machining of the different setups in a single program and obtaining a long-term program, the responsible operator can take care of other machines and perform other productive tasks.
All this leads us to the conclusion of the importance of fixturing and knowledge in workholding systems within the CNC machining industry, especially in mass production.
I hope you enjoy it.
Regards.
